Northern Historic Route

 
 
A Tailor-made North Historic route Tour Itinerary for any interested tourist.
Here you have the opportunity’s to combine visiting the ancient cities of the north like Axum. Lalibella, Mekele ( capital of Tigrai region), Gondar or the source of the Blue Nile near Bahirdar, with its magnificent lake Tana. Diving thousands of years back to pre-historic Christian times.

Day 1: Addis Ababa

 
Arriving at Bole International Air Port, Addis Ababa, guests will be met by our representative and will be transferred to a hotel. After taking enough rest, you start sightseeing tour in the city of Addis Ababa that includes the National Museum which comprises of many where cultural and archeological relics including “LUCY” 3.2 Million years old hominid are cherished. Sightseeing of Addis Ababa also includes St. George Cathedral and Museum where you will have a brief about the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and visit its ancient parchments’ and beautiful handicrafts. From Mount Entoto you could enjoy the panoramic view of the city with its surrounding plains and volcanic cones together with its breathtaking air. During the night you could enjoy cultural songs and dances at one the many cultural restaurants in the city.

Day 2:

 
Early morning drive to Debremarkos on the way visit you will visit the Portuguese bridge, the 13th-century monastery of Debre Libanos, the Blue Nile Gorge which resembles the Grand Canyon in the USA. You will have a lunch stop in Debremarcos and have city sightseeing and keep driving to Bahirdar. Bahirdar is located some 570 km from Addis Ababa. Late in the afternoon you reach Bahirdar and check in the resort.

Day 3

 
Bahirdar is located on the southern shores of Lake Tana. This is the source of the Blue Nile, the longest river in the world. The river starts its journey here and crossing through Sudan and Egypt finally enters into the Mediterranean Sea. Lake Tana contains 37 islands and many of them have historic churches.
Hence after breakfast, for example, a boat trip to Zegie peninsula enables you to see Ura Kidane Mehret, the 17th-century church with its interior superbly painted with Biblical scenes, and rich with illuminated manuscripts. In the late afternoon, you will have the chance to visit the Bezawite palace and the panoramic view of the town.

Day 4

 
After breakfast, a boat trip on the Lake Tana will take you to the nearby islands to visit some of the ancient monasteries. After lunch, you will dive 35 km from Bahirdar and half hour trekking you will see the fascinating gorge of the Blue Nile Falls. As the Blue Nile is currently diverted to generate electricity you may not have a chance to see the spectacular feature of the Blue Nile Falls, or “Tis Isat” in Amharic meaning “water that smokes”. In the evening you could make a sightseeing tour of the city of Bahirdar.

Day 5

 
Early morning drive to Lalibela via Gashena. Lalibela is located some 300km from Bahirdar. You reach Bahirdar around noon. After a lunch break, you start visiting the amazing 11 Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela.

Day 6

 
In the Morning half day, you will have an excursion by mule to Asheton Mariam to visit the church that lies on the top of the mountain. The church itself is similar in style to other rock churches, but the panoramic view of the surroundings is spectacular from the mountaintop. In the afternoon after a lunch break, you will continue your visit with the remaining rock churches in Lalibela, and in the evening you will have a coffee ceremony and drinking “Honey Wine” in one of the traditional dancing houses.

Day 7

 
After breakfast, we prepare for a return flight to Addis Ababa and check in the hotel and prepare for final departure to Norway.
